The “Turn” of the Whirling Dervishes – Part 1

Performed by Hafizullah Chishti

This is a solo offering of the whirling prayer/meditation known as “the Turn,” a practice of the Sufis. The style of music and chant in the clip is traditional for this practice. This particular “performance” was given at a small college in New Jersey in 2009. The musician is Amir Vahhab, an Irani specialist in Sufi music.  Filmed/Performed in the U.S.

I am a spiritual guide in the Sufi tradition and a “lineage-holder” in the Sufi teaching brought to the West in the early part of the 20th Century by Hazrat Inayat Khan. I have walked, stumbled, crawled, and danced this path since 1976 and taught it for about 20 years. I am based in Seattle, where I focus a circle of seekers in the practices that lead to spiritual awakening.
